I went to Netflix Canada to finally watch Yes, Minister for the first time, and it was gone. The contract expired I guess.

What I'm wonder is how much money - either in syndication sales or in DVD sales - an old series like Yes, Minister is *really* making the company that owns it (I'd guess pretty close to zero at this point, Not zero, but close). Is that really more money than they'd make by licensing it to Netflix? Apparently it is:P.

But in any case, it's not on Netflix anymore, and I'm too lazy to see if it's legally available somewhere else online in Canada (almost certainly not, if my experience is anything to go by). But I'm still going to watch it in about 5 minutes, wink wink, nudge nudge.

Do you know what that means? Yup, that's right. Yet more lost sales due to the fact that companies are too freaking lazy to bother figuring out a legal method to let me pay them for their content:P!

Oh... and even if iTunes Canada was up to snuff and had all of this stuff, I wouldn't be paying 1.99 to stream a single episode of a show this old. I can almost see that being reasonable to purchase a lifetime license to view the content in question if it's a brand new show (especially an expensive to make one), but for something 30+ years old? Pfffft, give me a break.

the new album's so close now! can't wait. How have the shows evolved over that span of time? i'm thinking of how I got to watch the Drive-By Truckers evolve a bit (went to several shows over a few years because a friend of mine is friends with them). To my inexpert eye it seemed like they were cohering into a tighter group, which was cool to see

What a trip! Thank you for telling that story and for your kind words too :) Wow -- that is serious coordination there. I have trouble keeping my sneakers tied. Sure does sound like a fun show to have seen!

Great piece. I love anyone who loves Turnpike. You mentioned Evan going through strings in one set. Reminds me of my favorite concert moment ever: While playing at the Cains Ballroom, Evan needed to change strings. No big deal except he was singing and playing harmonica while he changed all of them. The only thing he had to say afterwards was "who needs stage hands?". Best night ever!

Kathy, thank you so much! I definitely agree, they're not just good. I've had that acoustic version of "Good Lord Lorrie" playing in my head all week.
It was so nice of you to take a moment and write me your kind note. :)
